In 2011, the leadership team at EnableComp met to develop our first mission statement and core values. We believed our mission (what we do) and core values (what we believe) were fundamental to creating the culture we desired and propelling the growth we required.
We find most organizations have a mission statement and a set of core values so we aren’t unique in that sense. We are unique in that our mission and core values aren’t just a nice poster on a wall, but they are strategically integrated into everything we do from hiring to firing. Our core values define who we are and how we act as employees and as a team.
Our first core value is Uncompromising Integrity, which to us simply means “our word is our bond.” It’s listed first intentionally among our six core values because we believe if you don’t have Integrity, none of the other core values matter.
A few years ago, we decided it was important to define what behaviors we wanted to see modeled by all employees for each of our core values. For Integrity, our expected behaviors are:
- We honor our commitments,
- We practice trust, mutual respect and professionalism,
- We admit and learn from our mistakes,
- We do the right thing.
Having a set of core values provides a guide, a north star, to help us navigate and stay on the right path as our business grows. For example, we’ve had a couple of instances where an employee violated this core value. We had a decision to make regarding their future with our company. In using our Integrity core value as a guide it was an easy decision: those employees no longer work here. And for those who value integrity and live by it, we're glad you're on our team and we appreciate all you do.
